On Wednesday, August 11, Roten’s Furniture store located on the square in Marshall announced that they would be closing its doors due to ongoing heath issues.
Roten’s have been a cornerstone of the community for over 74 years.
The business started in 1947 with Bob’s parents and he and wife, Rose took over in 1982.
One of Roten’s favorite memories is when his mother used to greet everyone as they came in the doors. She would greet and talk with customers while they were waiting and would have a nice conversation. According to Roten he and his wife love to travel and are planning on doing a lot more of it once the store is closed. As well as traveling they are planning on just staying home and relaxing a bit.
Roten also stated that the employees understand the health problems that have been going on and if things were different, they would not be closing. He stated that they would love to sell but there have not been any buyers so far. It is possible that it will still happen. They do not want to see the store close since it’s been open for so long.
Roten had this to say to the customers, “We appreciate the business over the years. The friendship has meant a lot to us.†They had their “Going out of business†sale starting Thursday, August 19. They are currently still receiving trucks with merchandise. They are also still receiving customers at this point
